Napanook 1997

Napanook, a historic vineyard that dates back to 1836, is located at the foot of the Mayacamas Mountains in Yountville, Napa Valley.

The Napanook wine was first released in 1996 with the intention of producing a wine to be enjoyed in its younger years.

Unlike the previous vintage, Merlot was added. Petit Verdot was eliminated this year because it would have brought too much structure to the wine, requiring years of aging to be truly enjoyable.

Vintage Summary
Substantial rains fell in December and January, followed by a very dry spring. As the season continued, the bloom started in mid-April and was relatively short. This would later make for uniformity of ripeness. By summer it was evident that the harvest would be large and severe crop thinning necessary. The favorable weather continued during the summer, helping the maturation and improving the flavors of the Cabernets and Merlot.
