Napanook 1996

Napanook, a historic vineyard that dates back to 1836, is located at the foot of the Mayacamas Mountains in Yountville, Napa Valley.

The Napanook wine was first released in 1996 with the intention of producing a wine to be enjoyed in its younger years.

It is therefore a historical vintage, being the first ever produced. With this in mind, Christian Moueix and his team made a special effort to even surpass the great natural quality of the vintage. In order to produce the best wine to be enjoyed in its early years, no Merlot was added to the final blend.

Vintage Summary
The heavy rains of February and March provided good moisture for the growing season. April and May saw high temperatures, leading to an early budbreak. The warm weather continued in June and July, followed by very hot days and cool nights in August and September. These excellent growing conditions allowed the fruit to fully mature in order to obtain a near-perfect balance.
